BIO/cv
Paige Follmann-Robinson is a contemporary abstract artist based in Charleston, SC. Her abstract depiction of nature speaks to our surroundings and the profound effect it has on our emotions. Paige combines organic shapes resembling trees, flowers, and greenery with bold pattern and vibrant color fields of negative space. Her expressive textural lines and botanical shapes are drawn from the complexities of our natural environment as seen through Paige's eyes.
Paige begins each work by drawing a loose composition using charcoal pencil onto the canvas. Her hand moves intuitively across the work, allowing for gestural movements and lines to create a lyrical composition as a starting point. She uses a combination of acrylic, ink, and oil paint, sometimes even incorporating spray paint into the work. Finally, she adds thin layers of oil paint, over and over again until the themes begin to emerge from her work. She combines thick, bold lines, with soft brushstrokes across the painting. She is always drawing from the environment around her, often letting the movement of her brush and the colors tell the story of the painting.
Paige received a BA with an emphasis in Drawing and Painting while attending UGA and continued her art studies while traveling across Spain and France. She completed an independent fine art program at University of Barcelona, Spain. Her work has been exhibited by numerous fine art galleries across the Southeast and New York, Texas and California. Her paintings are found in both private and public collections throughout the United States. Her passion is creating custom works for art collectors that speak to them. She works and resides in Charleston, SC with her husband and two children, Bowman and Lyons Gray, who share her affinity for art. When she's not painting in her studio, she enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, and enjoying everything the Lowcountry has to offer.

artist statement
Paige Follmann-Robinson began her art career on a foundation of still life and realistic painting, which informs her current abstract work. She is largely a self-taught artist with a tenacious approach to life and making art. Her love of art began as a young child, leading her to pursue studies in art during her undergraduate education and independent studies in Spain and France. Paige's work has continued to evolve over her career and serves as a way to manage the challenges that come with life, both as an artist and as an observer of art which is reflective of her desire to stay curious, grow, and explore.
Paige begins each work with several thin layers of her chosen medium of oil paint sometimes incorporating ink and acrylic into her work. With her intentional and expressive approach, she abstracts shape and color to depict the connection between humanity and nature. Layer by layer, the themes of her work emerge from the canvas. She juxtaposes clean, sharp, simple lines with blurred edges of shapes that move lyrically across the canvas resulting in subtle layers of rich color that create depth. Her textural expression of these lines and shapes represent nature in a vibrant color palette. The colors in her work evoke a great deal of emotion - a balance of calmness and passion. Being a natural observer, it feels cathartic to sit and reflect on the environment as seen through her eyes.
For Paige, art is a powerful tool to express individuality. It is a way to be seen and to create the human connection that is vital to our health and happiness. It is reflective of the states of mind that we all experience. The connections that viewers feel when viewing her paintings bring a level of joy to the experience and creation of the work. Paige doesn’t choose to paint, she has to paint. It’s a place of freedom, reflection and connection between humans and nature.

“I wanted to paint a vibrant - almost psychedelic painting of nature. This was my vantage point while sitting at a table across from a beautiful vista. You can see my Spanish art influences emerging in this work. It feels trippy to me and the colors exude a lot of emotion - a balance of passion and calmness. It’s very much me.”
